Overview
This illustration was created as part of a university task focused on studying and recreating the visual language of Henri Privat-Livemont, one of my favorite Art Nouveau artists. His gentle linework, harmonious shapes, and soft monochromatic palettes have always resonated with me, so I chose to explore his style in depth.
My first sketch leaned more toward my own character design sensibilities, but as the project evolved, I reworked the composition to stay closer to Livemont’s aesthetic — from the serene facial expression and flowing silhouette to the naturally framed background and warm, unified color scheme. The goal was to understand how he constructed his calm, cozy atmosphere through subtle detail rather than modern contrast or rendering.

The Results
The final artwork captures the spirit of Livemont’s gentle storytelling: soft lines, delicate florals, and a warm palette built from variations of a single hue. Adjusting my initial approach allowed the piece to echo the elegance and restraint that define his posters. This study helped me better understand the quiet complexity behind classical Art Nouveau illustration — and gave me a deeper appreciation for Livemont’s timeless charm.
