Air – Album & Single Cover Artwork

Overview

This piece began as an opportunity to express my mental state at the time and to visually represent what “Air” felt like to me — weightless, distant, and emotionally suspended. Since most of my artistic background comes from anime-styled lineart, I’d been craving a project that would push me into a fully painterly approach. No outlines, no strict shapes, just mood, color, and movement.

I started with loose thumbnails and emotional color blocking, building the scene from feeling rather than structure: glowing yellows to represent warmth and connection, deep blues to capture isolation, and flowing marine creatures to echo the sensation of drifting through thoughts. The glowing piano became the anchor of the piece, symbolizing expression and clarity in the middle of overwhelming surroundings. As I refined the painting, I focused on blending, soft edges, and creating a rich underwater atmosphere that still felt dreamlike rather than literal.

The Results

The final artwork became a mix of self-reflection and experimentation — a quiet moment suspended in a surreal world, painted in a way that finally let me let go of the lines I’d always relied on.
