Overview
The goal was to translate the author’s initial concept into a compelling cover illustration that immediately communicates the novel’s mood — a futuristic world devastated by an alien invasion. The author requested a dramatic, story-driven visual with a strong color identity and space for title placement.
I built the scene around a stylized, silhouette-heavy cityscape to frame the central portal and protagonist without overwhelming the layout. The palette was crafted using the author’s preferred hues, pushing deep greens and vivid purples to create high contrast and an otherworldly glow.
The composition emphasizes narrative tension: a lone figure approaching a pulsing, glitch-like portal against a ruined skyline. Every lighting choice was made to reinforce the eerie, cinematic atmosphere.
